dombivli Blast Video: Nine people lost their lives and over 60 were injured in a massive fire that broke out at a chemical factory in Dombivli in Maharashtra’s Thane district on Thursday following a boiler explosion.

Officials said the incident took place at a chemical factory in Phase 2 of the Dombivli MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) complex.

According to preliminary information, four boilers of Amber Chemical Company exploded and caused a huge fire. The fire started bursting the drums containing the chemicals, shattering the windows of the surrounding houses.

The explosion was so loud that it could be heard up to a kilometer away, eyewitnesses said. The blast shattered the glass windows of a nearby building and damaged several houses in the area, he added.

The injured workers have been shifted to a local hospital, a civic official said.

Yasin Tadvi, head of disaster management unit of Thane civic body, said that the explosion occurred at around 1.40 pm in the chemical factory.

The fire caused by the explosion spread to three neighboring factories and billows of smoke and flames could be seen in the distance, he said.

A brigade call was issued and eight fire tenders were rushed to the spot, he added.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the incident as tragic and confirmed that eight people trapped inside the premises had been rescued.

“Arrangements have been made to treat the injured and more ambulances have been kept ready. I have discussed with Thane district collector and they have also reached the spot… NDRF, TDRF and fire brigade teams have been called,” he wrote on X .

A team of Regional Disaster Management Cell of Thane Civic Organization and 13 personnel of Thane Disaster Response Force have also reached the spot and efforts are on to control the fire.

Expressing grief over the incident, Maharashtra Public Works Minister (excluding Public Works) Ravindra Chavan appealed to people in the surrounding areas not to panic.

He said, the administration has been asked to deal with fire extinguishing works. The minister also said that the case will be thoroughly investigated and action will be taken against the culprits.
