Wrestler Vinesh Phogat has got a big setback before the final match of the women’s wrestling 50 kg event in Paris Olympics 2024. She has been disqualified before the final match due to overweight. On Tuesday, she defeated Cuba’s Lopez Guzman 5-0 in the semi-finals. She became the first female wrestler to reach the final of the Olympics.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) confirmed this and said that Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified due to being overweight. The association said, “The Indian contingent is saddened to report that Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the 50 kg category of women’s wrestling. Despite the best efforts made by the team overnight, she weighed a few grams more than 50 kg this morning. There will be no further comment by the contingent at this time. The Indian contingent requests you to respect Vinesh’s privacy. She would like to focus on the current competitions.”
