Recently, three candidates preparing for UPSC died due to waterlogging in a coaching center being run in Old Rajendra Nagar area of Delhi. This coaching center located in the basement of a flat got flooded due to heavy rains, after which the people studying in it got trapped downstairs.
During this time, most of the people were able to come out after a lot of difficulties, but three people including a girl remained inside and died due to suffocation in water.
This incident created a sensation in the whole country, after which everyone from the owner of the coaching center to the property owners were taken into custody.
The High Court held the landlords guilty –
In this case of the coaching center, the High Court held the owners of the basement guilty and sought a reply on their bail plea, during this time the lawyer of the owners told that they cannot be held responsible for this incident, because they have given the basement on rent.

The High Court said that before renting out their property, landlords should see to whom and for what purpose they are giving their property and should learn from this incident that happened in Old Rajendra Nagar.
Landlords should know for what purpose their property is being leased and the rent amount and the date of payment should be mentioned in the rent agreement.
