Bihar Bridge Collapse News: For the past few days, one news has been coming from Bihar repeatedly and that is the news of bridge collapse. 12 bridges have collapsed in Bihar in the last 18 days. This year, the spate of bridge collapses in Bihar began on June 18, when a bridge first collapsed in Sixty Block of Araria district. This was followed by a series of bridge collapses, with around 10 bridges collapsing in a fortnight. If we look at the smaller bridges, on July 3, five bridges collapsed in a single day. Well, this time it’s different and the bridges aren’t falling.

Actually, the trend of bridge collapse in India has been going on for a long time and a large number of bridges collapse every year. Looking at all-India records, one report says that 2,130 bridges have collapsed in India between 1977 and 2017 (excluding culverts and footover bridges). According to this research, the average age of bridges in India is 34.5 years. At the same time, looking at the incidents of bridge collapses in the last few years, a report by Factly states that according to NCRB data, 214 cases of bridge collapses have been reported between 2012 and 2021.

Bridge collapses kill many people every year. Between 2012 and 2021, 285 people died in bridge collapses. In this, 62 people died in 2012, 53 in 2013, 12 in 2014, 24 in 2015, 47 in 2016, 10 in 2017, 34 in 2018, 26 in 2019, 10 in 2020, 10 in 2020. In 2022, a bridge collapsed in Morbi, Gujarat, killing 141 people after a bridge over the Machu river collapsed.
