Dombivali Blast: A fire broke out in a chemical factory at Dombivali in Thane district of Maharashtra at 1.40 pm on Thursday due to boiler explosion. 9 people died in the accident and more than 60 people were injured. The dead include 6 men and 2 women. But their bodies were so burnt that they could not be identified. This factory is located in the campus of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation i.e. MIDC Phase-2.

Local people said that there were three consecutive small explosions. They were so loud that they could be heard for about 3 km. Cracks appeared in the windows of the surrounding buildings. At the same time, many nearby houses were damaged due to the explosion. The cause of the accident is not clear yet.
According to state Industries Minister Uday Samant, the factory was closed. Most of the dead are from the factory. He was working in it at the time of the accident. The state Industries and Labor Department issued a statement saying that the boiler in the factory was not registered under the Indian Boiler Act, 1950.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that there is an apprehension that some more people are trapped in the factories around the chemical factory. Our priority is to save people. The Maharashtra government has announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh for those who lost their lives in the accident. At the same time, he took the responsibility of treating the injured.
He further said that arrangements were made for treatment of the injured. Several ambulances were kept ready. I talked to the collector and he also reached the spot within 10 minutes. Teams of NDRF, TDRF and Fire Brigade were also called.
Shrikant Shinde said – In the next 6 months, such chemical factory will be shifted out
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s son Shrikant Shinde also reached the incident site. He talked to the media and said, “We are talking to the media. To prevent such incidents from happening, we will shift chemical factories out of residential areas in the next 6 months. Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant said that the factory had been closed for several months. It was launched a few days ago.
