Nirmala Sitharaman: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said after the 53rd GST Council Meeting on Saturday that many services of Indian Railways have been excluded from the scope of GST. Now GST will not be levied on platform tickets.

Along with this, it has been suggested to impose 12% GST on solar cookers and milk cans made of steel and aluminum. Apart from this, it has also been recommended to impose 12% GST on cartons made of paper and paper board. The Finance Minister said that we have taken many decisions to increase the business and provide relief to the tax payers.

Aadhaar will curb fake input tax credit
The Finance Minister said that there has been a discussion on imposing 12% GST on all types of sprinklers. He said that reducing GST on paper carton boxes and sprinklers will greatly benefit apple producers of Himachal and Jammu and Kashmir. Apart from this, arrangements will also be made to ensure Aadhaar based biometric identification across the country. This will curb the incidents of taking fake input tax credit through fake invoices.

Monetary limit for GST Appellate Tribunal is Rs 20 lakh
Along with this, a decision was also taken to reduce the cases during the GST Council meeting. Under this, now the monetary limit for GST Appellate Tribunal has been increased to Rs 20 lakh. This amount will be Rs 1 crore for the High Court and Rs 2 crore for the Supreme Court. Tax exemption has also been given on battery operated vehicles and intra railway services of railways. The meeting was attended by the CMs of Goa and Meghalaya, Deputy CMs of Bihar, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, Finance Ministers of States and Union Territories (including legislatures) and senior officials of the Central Government and States.
