Pune Police have arrested prominent construction businessman Vishal Agarwal after an accident involving his minor son, Vedant Agarwal, who was driving a Porsche and hit two IT engineers in Kalyani Nagar. Vishal Agarwal was found in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar after evading arrest. He faces charges under the Motor Vehicles Act and the Juvenile Justice Act for allowing his underage son to drive while intoxicated. Public outrage over the incident has prompted Pune Police to crack down on establishments serving alcohol to minors, registering cases against several hotel and bar owners.

On Tuesday morning, Aggarwala was arrested from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Pune Police Crime Branch. He will be brought to Punyat till noon and will be produced before the court soon thereafter. Vishal Agarwalwar was booked under sections 3, 5 and 199 of the Motor Vehicles Act and section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act for allowing his underage son to drive a car and despite knowing that he was underage, he allowed him to drive under the influence of alcohol. However, due to Vishalcha Mulga being a minor, the court granted him the land conditionally.

17 year old Vedant Aggarwal’s accident while driving a Porsche has created quite a stir. The public anger across the state is significant by raising many question marks over the effectiveness of the existing laws. In response to this, Pune Police has taken strict action by registering cases against hotels and bar owners who provide liquor to underage girls. Cases have been registered against Hotel Kosi owner Pralhad Bhutada, manager Sachin Katkar, Sandeep Sangle of Black Club and bar counter manager Jayesh Bonkar of Marriott Sweets.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said on record that Vedant Agarwal was under the influence while driving the car. Accordingly, Pune Police is seeking permission from the High Court to continue the case against him as the main accused.
