Sirsa: A joint team of Health Department Fatehabad and Sirsa raided the town of Jeera Makhu in district Ferozepur, Punjab and busted the gang involved in sexdetermination of unborn child. The team caught a middleman from the spot with cash worth Rs 18,500 while the accused of conducting the test fled from the spot with the machine.
It has been told that the people of the gang used to do sexdetermination of unborn child in a room.
According to the information, Fatehabad’s acting civil surgeon Dr. Mahendra Singh Bhadu received a complaint that the members of the gang involved in sexdetermination of fetus are active in Punjab.
After which, on his order, a special team was formed under the leadership of PNDT in-charge Dr. Nirpal Singh, Dr. Deep Singh Mann, Dr. Vivek Kumar and Dr. Bharat Bhushan of Sirsa team. A pregnant woman was prepared as a customer and a deal was fixed with a middleman from Muktsar in Punjab for Rs 50,000 to get the sexof the fetus checked.
When the middleman woman reached near the government hospital of Jeera Makhu in Punjab with the decoy, from there the said middleman woman talked to a doctor named Ramandeep on the phone. After which Deepak, an employee of a private hospital, came there on a motorcycle and the middleman woman made the pregnant woman sit with him on the bike and gave him Rs 18,500 and kept the rest of the amount with herself.
When the young man was going with the decoy, the team of doctors chased him but he disappeared from the crowded streets. After some time, after the ultrasound of the pregnant woman, the said middleman woman and the decoy who came with her informed on the phone that the fetus was a girl. Later, when the young man started leaving the pregnant woman, the team caught him and recovered the cash from him.
The team raided the ultrasound house based on the information given by the pregnant decoy woman. Civil surgeon Dr. Mahendra Bhadu said that cash worth Rs 20,000 has been seized from the accused. Other accused will be identified after interrogating him.
