International Yoga Day 2024: Every year on June 21, the whole world comes together to celebrate International Yoga Day. This global phenomenon recognizes the ancient Indian yoga practice and its profound impact on physical, mental and spiritual well-being.
The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word “yuj”, which means “to join” or “to unite”, and it symbolizes the philosophy of bringing harmony in mind, body and spirit. It is more than just physical postures, as it is a holistic approach to health, integrating breathing exercises, meditation and ethical principles.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, “The word ‘yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit root ‘yuj’, which means ‘to join’ or ‘to connect’ or ‘to unite’. According to Yoga scriptures, the practice of yoga connects individual consciousness with universal consciousness, indicating perfect harmony between mind and body, man and nature.” International Yoga Day 2024: Why is International Yoga Day celebrated?
