The General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, former Union Minister, and MP from Sirsa, Kumari Selja, said that this time a majority Congress government is going to be formed in Haryana. She said that the decision on whether there will be a woman or Dalit Chief Minister in the state will be made by the High Command; anyone can claim it, but the decision rests with the High Command. Rahul Gandhi has worked hard on the ground, and through his journeys, he has infused new enthusiasm and energy among the workers, which will lead Congress to a massive majority.
During a conversation with the media, Kumari Selja said that there is no doubt that a Congress majority government is going to be formed in Haryana. There are three key factors behind this: first, Rahul Gandhi has worked hard on the ground and has instilled new energy in the workers through his journeys; second, there is an anti-BJP wave because the people of the state were troubled by the wrong policies of the BJP government, and Congress was seen as a suitable alternative.
Kumari Selja said that the third factor is the hard work of Congress workers, who prepared the ground for the party by working together. In response to the question of who will be the Chief Minister of Haryana, she said that she has said before that while anyone can make claims, the High Command will decide on the Chief Minister’s name, as there is a process for selecting the CM in Congress. When asked whether Kumari Selja herself is a part of this process, Kumari Selja said that the High Command will also decide on that. Regarding whether she will stake a claim for the Chief Minister’s position, Kumari Selja said that the word claim is something coined by the media, and when the decision on the Chief Minister’s name is made, her name could be among the candidates.
When asked about the prominent names being considered for the Chief Minister position, with one being Bhupinder Singh Hooda and the other Kumari Selja, she said that it is natural for both names to come up as both are senior-most in the party. Kumari Selja said that people had made up their minds for change, and Congress was seen as a good option that the people chose. She said that the ten years of BJP rule became a headache for the people, as it took Haryana ten years backward. Farmers and laborers in the state were unhappy, and the public was troubled by the wrong policies of the BJP government. In response to another question, Kumari Selja said that the BJP failed to build the connection with the people that a government should have in its ten years of rule. Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Haryana brought a new wave of energy to Congress, and people felt that someone was there to understand their concerns. The public knows that Congress understands them and delivers on its promises.
