A shocking incident occurred in Indore on Sunday (June 23) when BJP leader Monu Kalyane was shot dead. Kalyane, the city president of BJP’s Yuva Morcha and a close associate of Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, was attacked by two motorcycle-borne assailants in Chimanbagh around 2 am. He was critically injured and declared dead upon arrival at MY Hospital. The police identified the attackers as Piyush and Arjun, who allegedly acted out of old enmity. The suspects remain at large, and their houses were vandalized by enraged locals. The incident has intensified security measures in the area to prevent further violence.
According to reports, two motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire on them in Indore’s Chimanbagh area around 2 am. The assailants attacked Monu while he was putting up flags and posters of the saffron yatra. A bullet hit him in the chest and he was rushed to MY Hospital in critical condition but was declared brought dead. After the incident, some people vandalized and set fire to the houses of the accused in the morning.
The incident came to light in Chimanbagh area under MG Road police station. According to the police, accused Piyush and Arjun killed Monu Kalyane out of old enmity. Currently, both the accused are absconding and their search is on.
Monu Kalyan was an influential figure in the politics of Indore Assembly Constituency No. 03. He was considered close to former MLA Akash Vijayvargiya, son of Kailash Vijayvargiya.
According to the police, the incident took place near Ganesh Mandal in Chimanbagh around 2 am. Monu, son of Rajendra Kalyane of Usha Phatak, along with his brother and friends, was hoisting flags and banners. He was all set to lead the saffron procession from Chimanbagh to Rajwada on Sunday.
According to the police, two youths named Piyush and Arjun came to Chimanbagh Chowk on a two-wheeler. Sitting on a bike, he engaged Monu in a discussion. At this time, Arjun, who was sitting in front, took out a pistol and fired at Monu Kalyane. He then ran away with Piyush. The assailants also fired at Monu’s friends who were present at Chimanbagh Chowk, but they escaped.
According to information received, one bullet hit Monu in the chest and the other hit his right hand. His companions rushed him in critical condition to MY Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The accused are also residents of Chimanbagh area. Monu used to give money on interest, the dispute over this transaction is coming to light as the motive behind the murder. On getting information about the murder, police officers rushed to the spot and raided the house of the accused, but they were not found. The police are actively searching for them and a police presence has been deployed in the area to prevent any possible confrontation.
After Monu’s murder, Akash Vijayvargiya, son of Kailash Vijayvargiya and former MLA from Indore Assembly Constituency No. 03 reached Monu’s house with his supporters and met his family to console him.
