‘Ashwini’s mother Mamta Costa said her daughter wanted to return home and quit her job in Pune.
“A day before the accident, Ashwini informed me that she would return home to Jabalpur and had booked a ticket for June 18 to surprise her father on her birthday. However, it ended this way,” she said.
Pune Porsche death Ashwini is from Jabalpur and Anis is from Pali town in Madhya Pradesh.
The family members have claimed that the two bodies started rotting in Sassoon General Hospital as they were not kept in the cold chamber in the mortuary.
“My son’s body has already started decomposing and we have to travel by road for about 10-12 hours in summer. We had already lost our child, and being outside hoped that the body would at least receive better treatment. However, the hospital administration failed to manage it in good condition,” said Anis’ uncle Gyanendra Soni, adding that the bereaved family consists of mother, father and a 21-year-old younger brother.
Anis worked for a company in Pune for one and a half years after completing his education, while his younger brother is studying at DY Patil College in the city.
“His father owns a small printing press and mother is a housewife. Anis used to support his family financially,” Soni said.
On getting information about the incident, the family members of the deceased traveled by road from Jabalpur to Nagpur and took a flight from Nagpur to Pune.
Anis’s younger brother and some of his friends were present at the police station and hospital to handle the process. After the postmortem was conducted late afternoon on May 19, Anish’s brother requested the hospital authorities to keep the body in the mortuary until the parents and family arrived. However, the hospital authorities did not support their request and the body was kept outside the mortuary for a long time, resulting in the process of decomposition, the family alleged.
“We will take the body to our hometown Pali in Madhya Pradesh today and expect to reach home by late night. As the body cannot be cremated at night, one has to wait till dawn,” Soni said.
Dr Muralidhar Tambe, Acting Dean, Sassoon General Hospital said, “We have followed all necessary procedures in this matter and there was no negligence on our part. We have not received any formal complaint from the families of the deceased.”
