Delhi IGI Airport: The first monsoon rains in Delhi-NCR have brought relief and distress to people. Roads are flooded after heavy rains. Meanwhile, one person has died and 6 people have been injured after a parking roof collapsed at Delhi Airport Terminal – 1.

Actually,Delhi IGI Airport  during heavy rains in the morning when vehicles were lined up at Terminal 1, suddenly the roof of the parking lot collapsed and many vehicles were hit by it. Panic spread among the people present and they immediately called the emergency services for help.

Chief Fire Officer of Delhi said that 06 people are injured and have been admitted to Medanta Airport. He said, ‘At 0650 AM, a message was received from ADO Ravinder that the airport shed had collapsed, leaving 08 people trapped and injured, who were rescued by PCR/CATS and taken to Medanta Hospital and one person who was trapped was brought out dead.

The fire department said that the information about the collapse of the roof was received around 5:30 in the morning. At least four fire tenders were dispatched to the spot to bring the situation under control, he said. Indira Gandhi International Airport has three terminals – T1, T2 and T3. Only domestic flights operate at Terminal-1.

6 injured as support beam falls
Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officials said part of the roof of Delhi Airport’s Terminal-1 fell on a car including a taxi during heavy rain on Friday morning, injuring six people. He said a search operation was being carried out to ensure that no one else was trapped in the damaged vehicles. Apart from the roof sheets, support beams also collapsed, damaging cars parked in the pick-up and drop areas of the terminal, officials said.

He said that the injured have been admitted to the hospital. One of the six people was rescued from the car on which the iron beam had fallen, officials said. After DFS received a call about the incident around 5.30 am, three fire engines were dispatched to the airport. Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu said in a post on Twitter that he is personally monitoring the situation and the injured have been admitted to hospital.

Check-in counter closed
Clarifying after the accident, Delhi Airport said, ‘Part of Terminal 1 collapsed today due to heavy rain. Some people have been injured and the injured are being helped and given medical aid. Due to this, all flights operating from Terminal 1 have been temporarily cancelled. Check-in counters have been closed for security reasons.
